Surah al-Balad Ayat 2 with English Translation

2. (اے حبیبِ مکرّم!) اس لئے کہ آپ اس شہر میں تشریف فرما ہیں٭o

٭ یہ ترجمہ ”لا زائدہ“ کے اعتبار سے ہے۔ لا ”نفئ صحیح“ کے لئے ہو تو ترجمہ یوں ہوگا: میں (اس وقت) اس شہر کی قَسم نہیں کھاؤں گا (اے حبیب!) جب آپ اس شہر سے رخصت ہو جائیں گے۔

2. as you reside in this city* (O Esteemed Prophet!).

* In the first verse, the particle la has come for emphasis, not negation. According to some scholars, the particle la may also refer to the true negation. In this case, the translation will be: ‘I will not swear by this city (O Prophet!) when you depart from this city.’ According to another linguistic probability, if the particle la is for the negating rhetorical question (al-istifham al-inkari), in this case, the translation will be: ‘Why should I not swear by this city (O Prophet!), while you reside there?’

2. (O My Esteemed Beloved,) because you are residing in it.*

* This translation is based on the position that the second la is extra. If la is taken as a true negation, the translation will be: ‘I will not swear by this city when, O Beloved, you will depart from it.’

2. Waanta hillun bihatha albaladi

2. fordi du (kjære høyaktede elskede ﷺ!), bor i denne byen,*

* Lā innledningsvis er et tilleggsord ifølge oversettelsen; hadde oversettelsen vært basert på at lā bekreftet negasjon, ville oversettelsen ha vært: «Jeg vil ikke sverge ved denne byen når du vil forlate den, (kjære elskede ﷺ)!»

2. (ऐ हबीबे मुकर्रम!) इसलिए कि आप इस शहर में तशरीफ फरमा हैं। *

* (ये तर्जमा “ला ज़ाइदा” के ऐतिबार से है। ‘ला’ नफिए सहीह के लिये हो तो तर्जमा यूं होगा: मैं (उस वक़्त) इस शहर की क़सम नहीं खाऊंगा, (ऐ हबीब!) जब आप इस शहर से रुख़्सत हो जाएंगे।)

,২. (হে মহিমান্বিত হাবীব) এ জন্যে যে, আপনি এ নগরীর অধিবাসী। *

* এ অনুবাদ দ্বিতীয় লা শব্দটিকে ‘লা যায়েদা’ অর্থাৎ অতিরিক্ত হিসেবে গণ্য করার কারণে। যদি `লা’ শব্দটি বিশুদ্ধ না-বোধক হয় তবে অনুবাদ হবে এ রকম, ‘(হে হাবীব!) আমি (সে সময়) এ শহরের শপথ করবো না, যখন আপনি এ শহর ত্যাগ করবেন।’
